Katharine Cluverius has over 30 years of book publishing experience as an editor and agent. She is an expert in proposal development and substantive manuscript editing, growing projects from the idea stage through publication and reshaping and fixing manuscripts to make them marketable.

She specializes in literary and commercial fiction and nonfiction biography, history and memoir, but has edited a wide range of categories, including medical, self-help, parenting, cooking, religion/spirituality, and business. Katharine understands the unique relationship of a writer and editor and takes particular care to approach every project with the writer’s voice, style, and goals in mind.

She has also served as publisher of indie titles and has shepherded many clients from manuscript to the marketplace.

  • Katharine has a unique ability to see what the writer may somehow miss.

    Through two published novels and a forthcoming memoir, Katharine has carefully and exhaustively read my pages, asked all the right questions and offered much-needed support.  

    You simply can’t send your work out into the merciless world of publishing without letting her give it a read. At the very least, your work will emerge better than you ever thought possible. At best, you’ll be thanking her in your acknowledgments.

  • Yes! In this hyper competitive publishing environment, clients often come to me to help them get a manuscript or book proposal in shape to shop around to agents and editors. I welcome writers at all stages in the process.

  • As a former agent and in-house editor, I covered a wide range of categories, so now as an editor and consultant, I work on both fiction and nonfiction and multiple subcategories of both. However, I do not do romance or children’s picture books only because I have little experience in either category.

  • I do not, but I do work with clients to build agent submission lists, strategize their submission plans, and develop and fine tune their query letters and marketing materials.

  • For a select group of clients, I do offer publishing services from manuscript to bound book. However, most of the writers I work with are more interested in the traditional publishing route, so we work together toward achieving the goal of finding an agent and/or editor.
